Polar Night: SETTING

Polar Night: A Warriors Roleplay is a semi/literate set in a fictional valley up in north Scandinavia. Because they are placed in the Arctic Circle, the cats experience polar nights and midnight suns. Their summers are three moons long while the rest of the year they are plunged into a dark winter with scant prey. Because of the severe cold and fleeting warmth, the cats have developed lighter coats and thicker pelts.

Polar Night: CURRENT STORY

ARC 1: A CLAN DIVIDED
There is a rustle at the Clan entrance.
The blizzard outside muffles the sound of something gently shoveling away the packed snow. You hear it: it is subtle and inconspicuous. You hear it even though you try so hard to squeeze your eyes and go back to sleep. It tickles the fur in your ears, it sends an uncomfortable shiver up your spine, and it has you twitching your tail in annoyance.Yes, you hear it, and you also hear a shrill, terrified shriek as the tunnels fill with fear-scent. What is it?!

WarrenClan swells like snowmelt as their warriors spill out of every tunnel. They are forced into the crannies of their underground sanctuary, each cat abreast of their peer. At some point, WarrenClan was no longer a home, now something humid and permeated with the stench of death.Weepingstar, green as a summer sprout and the son of Charstar, ascends. Opinions are split down the middle: while many support his reign, many undermine his capabilities to lead. He is the son of a paranoid murderer, after all - who would blame them?WarrenClan is running out of time to solve its overpopulation problem as its short summer begins. In the back of their minds, every soul in the Clan thinks the same thing:Will they survive the polar night?

Naming Conventions

Names should be based on Scandinavian wildlife - that is fauna and flora in Norway, Sweden, and Finland. Words that are sacred to the cats should not be used: Midnight, Polar, Moon, and Sun. Additionally, certain compound words are not allowed, such as "firefly," "dragonfly," and "bluebird."We also disallow the scientific names of flora and fauna to be used. For example, "douglas" in douglas fir, "bloody" in "bloody dogwood," or "burnet" in "burnet rose." Terms like fir, cedar, pine, oak, etc. are okay! Just keep names reasonable, that's all.We follow traditional Clan naming traditions found in the canon series. Names should be spelt as Prefixsuffix, not Prefix'Suffix, PrefixSuffix, or just prefix (when roleplaying). Names that have the same letter between prefix and suffix can be dashed, such as Rowan-nose or Wolf-frost, but try to avoid these.

Mutations & Disabilities

In Polar Night, the housecats and feral cats that dispersed into the Scandinavian wild have developed natural mutations: larger, webbed paws, longer, double-coated fur, slightly larger bodies, and smaller, tufted ears. While your cat does not have to have all/any of these traits, we recommend it.Mutations and disabilities should be written with care and properly researched. They also should be approved in our design check forum channel. Otherwise, we are fine with any disabilities and mutations. Common mutations such as curly fur, heterochromia, syndactylism/polydactylism, bobtails, and deafness in completely white cats do not need to be approved. The only kind of mutation we are expressly barring are breeds that lose fur such as lykois, sphinxes, wolf cats, etc.Within character backstories, we do not allow mentions of sensitive topics such as self-harm, suicide, manipulative personalities, severe abuse (emotionally or physically), or severe trauma.

Accessories

Accessories are okay as long as they can be naturally made by cats. Crude stilts, rock/bone/flower necklaces, skulls, bones, feathers, flora, etc. are okay. However, we do not allow things like sweaters, skulls on heads, or feathers behind the ears/on heads. If you want to educate yourself on why we do not allow feathers on the heads of characters, please read this document.

Colors

We allow any colors in Polar Night, but we would prefer if players used light-pelted cats due to the environment the cats live in. We also want to remind the players of the dangers of having darker pelts in a snowy environment, especially during clear weather: in open areas, your cat is at a higher risk, realistically, of getting spotted. We don't allow geometric designs or characters inspired by other fandoms. Cats are okay to have bright, unnaturally colored accents, but this should not make up the whole design. For example, you could have a red streak on a bird-inspired design, but the whole cat shouldn't be saturated red. We are okay with unnaturally colored eyes, but they shouldn’t be too saturated. Cats can have “hair” but shouldn’t resemble human styles — essentially should pass as a scruff or a mane. Please see these diagrams that visualizes our guidelines. We do not allow;- Oversaturated eyes or black sclera (most colors okay though, like muted red)
- Saturated pelts (accents ok)
- Geometric patterns
- Stars (reserved for leaders and medicine cats)
